Retirement Planning in San Dimas, CA

Retirement planning for pre-retirees and retirees in San Dimas, Glendora, La Verne, and Claremont

Retirement brings some of the biggest financial decisions you will ever make: when to stop working, when to claim Social Security, how to turn savings into a paycheck, and how to protect the people you love. At Homestead Wealth Management, Jarret Rodriguez, ChFC, CIMA, helps you make those decisions together, as one plan, instead of one at a time.

Jarret is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served from 1999 to 2006, including during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has spent about two decades in financial services, starting at Morgan Stanley and later working at Bank of America Investment Services (now Merrill Lynch) and Wells Fargo Advisors, before joining LPL Financial in 2021.

What retirement planning includes
A retirement plan is more than an investment account. We look at the whole picture:

  • Retirement income. Where your monthly income will come from, and how to coordinate pensions, IRAs, 401(k)s, and savings so the pieces work together.
  • Social Security timing. When to claim, how your choice may affect a spouse or surviving spouse, and how it fits with your other income. See our Social Security Basics page for more.
  • Taxes. How withdrawals, Roth conversions, and required minimum distributions may affect your tax bill over time. We coordinate with your CPA.
  • Investments. A portfolio built around your goals, time horizon, and comfort with risk, with regular reviews as markets and your life change.
  • Insurance and risk. Reviewing life, disability, and long-term care coverage, and planning for health care costs before and after Medicare.
  • Estate coordination. Beneficiary designations, account titling, and working alongside your estate planning attorney so your plan reflects your wishes.

Who we work with

  • Pre-retirees. If you are 5 to 10 years from retirement, there is still time to make choices that can matter, such as how much to save, which accounts to use, and when you might be able to stop working.
  • Retirees. If you have already retired, we help you review your income, withdrawals, taxes, and investments as your needs change.
  • Veterans and military families. Jarret knows firsthand what the move from military to civilian life is like. If you have a military pension, TSP, SBP, or VA benefits, see our Military Duty, Civilian Plan page.

How we work together

  1. A conversation. We start by listening: your goals, your family, your timeline, and what is keeping you up at night.
  2. A clear picture. We gather your accounts, benefits, and documents and show you how they fit together, including the trade-offs between your options.
  3. A plan you understand. You get practical recommendations in plain language, and we stay with you with regular reviews as your life, the markets, and the rules change.

A fiduciary looking out for you
When we provide investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary. That means we're required to put your interests first, give advice that fits your goals and situation, and be upfront about any conflicts of interest. Jarret is registered both as an investment adviser representative and as a registered representative with LPL Financial, and we'll always tell you which capacity we're acting in. Learn more on Our Fiduciary Commitment page.

How we're paid
You should know what you'll pay before you decide anything. Our How We're Paid page explains how our advisory and brokerage services are compensated.

Frequently asked questions
When should I start planning for retirement?
Generally, the earlier the better, but it is rarely too late to start. Many people find the 5 to 10 years before retirement especially important, because decisions about saving, Social Security, health coverage, and when to stop working can still be adjusted. If you are already retired, a plan can still help you review your income, taxes, and investments.

How do I know if I have enough to retire?
There is no single number that works for everyone. It depends on what you expect to spend, your other income sources such as Social Security or a pension, taxes, inflation, health care costs, and how long your money may need to last. A retirement plan puts those pieces together so you can see where you stand and what your options are. No plan can guarantee results, so we review it regularly and adjust as things change.

When should I claim Social Security?
You can start benefits as early as age 62, but claiming before your full retirement age permanently reduces your monthly benefit. For anyone born in 1960 or later, full retirement age is 67, and waiting past it increases your benefit for each year you delay, up to age 70. The right time depends on your health, your other income, whether you are still working, and, if you are married, your spouse's benefits. Our Social Security Basics page covers this in more detail.

What is the difference between a fiduciary and other financial advisors?
A fiduciary has a legal and ethical obligation to act in your best interest. Not every financial professional is held to the same standard in every situation. Some provide advice, some sell products, and some do both. When we provide investment advisory services, we act as a fiduciary, and we will always tell you which capacity we're acting in.
